Riding on the success of Richard Fleischer's epic, The Vikings, this low-budget offering starring Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier played it light and humorous. In this particular scene, the Vikings (led by Widmark) are attempting to escape the palace of evil Prince Mansuh (Poitier) when they stumble upon the royal harem.
How many A list actors were there?
Wonderfully authentic.
Watching it on Cinevault (Roku) right now. As a direct descendant of Vikings, I enjoyed the film, but it is riddled with artistic license and historical inaccuracies. Fun movie. Skål!
That instrument would have come in handy for King Solomon deciding how each mother could keep the baby they both claimed.
I saw this when I was about 10, in 1978. It was horrible! 😭 I couldn't imagine how horrible that death must have been! I was hoping that it was relatively quick! 😔
The Long Ships and the Vikings are two movie I get mixed up often. However, who could not appreciate Richard Witmark and Sidney Poitier together in film.
I remember when I was in junior school our RE teacher mentioned a slide similar to this which was used by some ancient civilization e.g. the Romans for purposes of execution. There was a rather sensitive girl in the classroom at the time who had actually passed out prior to that upon hearing a story about a Cyclops getting stabbed in the eye, and we were amazed when she didn't faint upon hearing that.
Now u know there wasn't a bunch of white broads in a moors herem.......miss me..1❤
Saw this as a child. Could not figure out what was going on.
With this film began a lifelong fascination with the Vikings.
I remember this movie and this scene from my childhood memories. I thougt for quite a long time how gruesome death on the mare of steel must had been.
Man oh man I LOOOVED this film growing up. Fond memories of watching it with my dad!
I remember this scene as a small child and have been trying to find the film for years!
She picked the oldest gaurd who had a beard yet she didn't pick the young boyish looking guys without the beard.
Always read the travel brochure.
just seems a bit impractical, get the point of having someone slide down a blade, chest would be rather easily sliced open, then to the spikes, which are strangely clear in the middle. Not exactly acting like the way a viking would act at being executed, needs to die in battle to get to Valhalla after all. and would say this is the only scene where Mansuh actually acts evil, other than that he only was trying to get something he thought was rightful his and only attacked those who come uninvited into his country. Even in the end, he didn't curse the vikings, just died saying he had brought the bell to his city.
Maybe now the person who created this video was died😢
I still have nightmares of being executed by this thing
I think I was 7 when I saw this on TV.
As a kid at 9 year old I was like Awsome !!
Yet another classic
The only part I have seen Sidney Poitier as a villain; he always took the good guy character, except this movie.
Looks like a sick device but today they would depict the sacrifice much more realistically 🤮
I still cringe.
Not one of Poitiers or Widmarks better movies.
Still better than any of the rides at my local Six Flags 🙄
We could've fried burgers on those metal slides. Hopefully you didn't scorch your hiney going down those slides, which had the added plus of being tall as "the mare of steel" on The Long Ships.😂
I have never seen such kind of torture.
... what an american b u l l s h i t ...
Chuck Berry has a giant man slicer???
You would be half the person you were after riding this beast
The word 'Genie' is derived from the Arab word 'Ginn' [pronounced 'Jinn']. This word means 'Demon'.
jezus god, terrified.
Brutal! But Steel wasn't discovered until the 1880's...
I saw this on TV when I was perhaps six or seven years old. It burned itself into my brain. I watched Ben Hur recently and i was reminded of it. Took me a while to find what film it was.
Interesting that when Richard Widmark is brought out, his hands are bound behind his back. And then, at 0:33 he looks up at his shipmates, and their hands are covering their groins. Other than that, the film is very contrived, filled with Western stereotyping of "the Other".
My favorite part of that is how they have a bed of nails to make sure that the two halves of you that reach the bottom get tortured as well. PS the device is unlikely to actually cut you in half. Simple gravity would not get through the bones. Still not a day at the beach tho. My sister gave the best comment on this movie: Sid looked really hot back then. Other holes in the movie: That bell is not going to ring encased in cement like that.
I saw this on tv when my grand dad was not home and thought I made it up!
I thought I’d imagined this horrible scene. I was maybe 10 when I saw it on tv back in the 90s.
солдат достойно умер, а этого тащат, как бабу.
This was based on the popular “Röde Orm” novels by Swedish author Frans G. Bengtsson.
Hahahaha🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
rubbish film ban it
exstremely stupid
This scene haunted me for years as a child. Very memorable movie.
I had no idea James Brown was a leader of the Moors.....😆
Funny how many people remember being traumatized by this as kids! Myself included!
I remember,I was like damn 😎
